Azerbaijan Wind IPP
The Khizi-Absheron 240 MW Wind Farm is a greenfield Independent Power Project (IPP) developed by ACWA Power in the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is the first large-scale, independently developed wind energy project in the country and plays a key role in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy transition.
The wind power plant, with an installed capacity of 240 MW, is located across the Absheron (Area 1) and Khizi (Khizi 3) districts, specifically in the Chayli and Sitalchay villages. It will consist of 37 wind turbines, 12 in Absheron and 25 in Khizi.
The first wind turbine was installed on November 23, 2024. All 12 turbines at the Absheron site have been successfully installed and are scheduled to begin operation in Q3 2025. Installation has also commenced at the Khizi site, with the entire project expected to be fully operational by Q4 2025.
Once completed, the wind farm will generate up to 907 GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power more than 300,000 Azerbaijani households. In addition to supporting energy diversification and national sustainability goals, the project will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 400,000 tons per year.
